|
Mission
Statement
Building the capacity of leaders involved in local community based organisations, using a mentoring approach and following the example of Jesus Christ, in order to meet the needs of the poor and marginalised. |
Introduction
UNSUNG HEROES is a Christian non-profit organisation with a unique focus to empower visionary leaders who are already engaged in much needed service to their community through an intensive capacity building programme.
What
is in the name?
We chose the name UNSUNG HEROES in order to place the focus
where it belongs, on exceptional community leaders who have the
vision to make a difference in their community. These unsung
heroes successfully serve poor communities at great personal
cost and are largely unrecognised. |
 |
What we do
UNSUNG HEROES does not initiate its own
projects, but partners with visionary community leaders who are
already doing significant work to make a difference in their
community.
These community leaders have great vision, but often do not have
the organisational ability to deliver an effective service to
their community due to a lack of capacity in areas of
administration, organisational development and fundraising. As a
result many of these desperately needed projects fail or are not
sustainable over the long term.
That is why UNSUNG HEROES strengthens these organisations
through an intensive two year capacity building programme. Our
professional Community Development Facilitators visit each
project weekly. The programme goes beyond
training and workshopping as the facilitators use a mentoring
approach to ensure that the project team implements what they
have learnt.

What makes us different
UNSUNG HEROES has taken a long hard look at the Development
landscape and pioneered a new methodology to build true capacity
and sustainability within committed Community Based
Organisation’s (CBOs), intent on the upliftment of their
communities. The methodology is called M3 and refers to
“Mentoring, Management and Money”.
It is in these three areas that comprehensive support is
provided to our unsung heroes.

Mentoring -
UNSUNG HEROES employs skilled
mentors who provide psychosocial assistance, life skills
development and spiritual support to ensure that our unsung
heroes remain resilient in the challenging work that they
are engaged in.
Management - ‘unsung
heroes’ are exposed to a two year training programme called
‘The Toolbox’ which covers the areas of governance,
strategic planning as well as finance & administration.
Money - UNSUNG HEROES
acts as a conduit of funding to community based
organisations, ensuring that there are effective controls in
place and adequate reporting. More importantly,
UNSUNG HEROES ensures that the
quantum and timeframe for the disbursement of funds, matches
the ability and capacity that the community organisation has
to effectively deploy such funding.
